My guest on the Your Radical Truth Podcast was Tammy Overhoff, a Lifestyle coach and owner of the “Reset and Flourish Brand.” I personally know Tammy, who owns her business. Her goal is to help others to learn to eat healthier by learning new habits regarding actual meal preparation and portion control, which Tammy discovered on her own quest for a healthy lifestyle.
When Tammy, herself was diagnosed with Celiac Disease the normalcy of her daily eating habits were completely changed and were gone forever. With this disease, you basically have to find similar foods to what you always had eaten, minus any trace of wheat contained in them. Finding these right foods was now literally a matter concerning not only her health but her very life as well. With her own lived experience of Celiac disease, Tammy is able to provide healthy, safe, gluten-free recipes to any of her clients who have Celiac disease. She also provides healthy food recipes to individuals who don’t have Celiac Disease.
Having Celiac disease myself, I know all too well, the advice that Tammy shared about being your own self-advocate is so important. For too many patients this disease continues to go on being undiagnosed. We have all heard that saying about listening to our bodies. And yes, who knows our bodies better than we do? The problem occurs when you have medical doctors who do not take what you are telling them seriously. With this disease, I had lost a huge amount of weight and those doctors labeled me as being anorexic, and the help I needed was in a Psychiatrist’s office. Finally, the eighth doctor really listened to me and wanted to know what was going on inside of my body.
Tammy, brought up the issue of cross-contamination in regard to Celiac Disease, you can have food that is gluten-free until it comes into contact with gluten. This unfortunately occurs all too often at restaurants. Tammy knows the importance of being able to cook gluten-free meals, which removes the ongoing threat of cross-contamination to your gluten-free meal. Her Reset and Flourish program provides weekly meal plans with delicious recipes which after cooking up can go into your freezer. As Tammy discussed with Celiac Disease, you can’t just grab something on the go like you previously did before your diagnosis of this disease. In every sense, your gluten-free freezer meals, are your new go-to grab-and-go meals.
