On a recent episode of “Your Radical Truth Podcast,” I had the pleasure of hosting Reverend Maura Bernard from the Celtic Christian Church as my guest.
Reverend Maura’s extensive biography spans diverse roles, ranging from teaching broadcasting to earning the title of Air Personality of the Year on WBAB, as recognized by Billboard magazine. She has interviewed rock stars, covered the Grammy Awards, and reported on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductions.
During our conversation, Reverend Maura shared an impactful comment from her sister, highlighting the significance of her role as a woman priest in reclaiming the historical presence of women bishops, deacons, and priests in the Catholic Church.
Despite the pivotal roles women played in the past, their contributions remain unacknowledged by the church hierarchy, especially during the specific time frame when women held these positions.
Reverend Maura’s ministry is wonderfully present to all she encounters; from having a drink in a bar and discussing a religious question, to performing a baptism, or presiding at funerals, and her participation in needed advocacy for the LGBTQ Community.
Reverend Maura received a Doctorate in Theology, focusing on Contemporary Spirituality, with “Celtic Prayer and Liturgy for the 21st Century.”
Indeed, the premise of her dissertation examines the religious past and its current relevance to us today in the Twenty-First Century. Maura stated, “What can we draw from it for our lives today? Liturgy, prayer, and theology continue to live; they evolve.” Have you, the reader, ever stepped back and given yourself the opportunity to find that meaning, that special connection you too can have with God?
Jesus’ relationship with us was never meant to be static but instead to truly be wonderfully dynamic!
