In a recent episode of the Your Radical Truth Podcast, I had the privilege of hosting Reverend Laurie Harrington, whose life journey has taken unexpected yet profound turns. Beyond her career in the Federal Government’s field of Cryptology post-high school, Laurie’s story unfolds into a deeply spiritual calling that eventually led her to become a Woman Priest.
Navigating Unexpected Paths
Reflecting on our career choices, Laurie acknowledged that many of us find ourselves in roles that were neither expected nor initially passionate. However, beneath the surface of her professional life, a profound spiritual presence accompanied Laurie from her early years.
Challenges as a Woman in the Catholic Church
Laurie grappled with her identity as a woman in the Catholic Church, realizing that her deep spiritual calling might not be recognized within its confines. Years later, when this calling resurfaced, Laurie found her path in the Independent Celtic Christian Church, complete with Apostolic Succession.
Answering God’s Call
I asked Laurie about the personal significance of becoming a Woman Priest. She shared, “I feel like I am now a complete person. This was something that I was called to do, and as long as I wasn’t doing it, that part of me was missing.” Laurie expressed the void experienced by women who, unlike men, face challenges in responding to their profound calls from God.
Empowerment Through Service
Laurie emphasized that being a priest didn’t grant her power over others. Instead, she sees herself as a humble messenger delivering God’s love to people. In her words, “I am just the delivery person, that’s my power so to speak.” Rev. Laurie embodies a humility reflective of Jesus’ ministry of love, care, and compassion.
Challenges in the Church Hierarchy
Despite Laurie’s sincere ministry, the Catholic Church Hierarchy has controversially equated Women’s Ordination with Priest Pedophilia, highlighting the ongoing struggle for recognition and acceptance.
Reverend Laurie Harrington’s journey serves as a testament to the resilience of those called to paths less traveled, particularly women answering the divine call to priesthood. Her story is one of finding completeness, peace, and joy in freely serving God as a Woman Priest.
