I was a guest on the insightful new podcast, Mad Catholic Unbox Your Faith, hosted by Kelly Wurth. She asked me, “What first lit your fire to take up this prophetic role?” I had always been curious about whether there had ever been women priests in the Catholic Church’s history. My answer came through extensive Biblical research. I discovered that Mary, Mother of God, was called “Mary Priest” and was considered “The Model for all Priesthood in the Catholic Church.” This discovery begs the question: why hasn’t the Catholic Church disclosed this glorious truth to Catholics worldwide? The Church’s failure to reveal this factual history has made the issue of women priests so contentious today.

The Catholic Church hierarchy has perpetuated a centuries-old Scandal of Omission regarding women’s priestly roles in its early history. This betrayal deeply affects the faith lives of Catholic women. Arguments against women’s ordination range from the belief that women are not made in the image of God, to notions of women being unclean due to their menstrual cycles, being sinners, and finally, the view that women’s bodies are invalid matter.

Kelly admitted, “I have to say, my stomach turned when I heard that. It’s such an abusive and dehumanizing argument to say that women’s bodies are materially invalid.” Modern Catholics must recognize the cultural bias and prejudice from which these views developed. These arguments are certainly not Biblical in nature and should not prevent women from being ordained.

These reasons behind Church-made laws prevent women from answering God’s call to them. How is answering God’s call breaking the law when it is God extending the invitation? The hierarchy’s Scandal of Omission has erased our past religious heritage. Why is it acceptable for the Catholic Church to continue lying to its followers? Don’t we deserve, at the very least, the truth?
