I was a guest on, “Dove and Dragon Radio” Podcast with M. I.Ruscsak. She asked me why I wrote, “Journey of a Celiac’s Soul: A Second Chance At Life”. This book is about my own journey living twenty years, with an undiagnosed auto-immune disease called Celiac Disease, which almost took my own life. It is a book, not only for those with Celiac disease, but for their immediate family, friends, or relatives, who wrongly, think of this disease in terms of it being a Fad Diet.

The Host said to me, “Celiac Disease, is not a Fad Diet,” then you might be wondering what type of diet actually is the Celiac diet? It is a diet completely different from others, in the sense of its goal. When you hear the word diet, you automatically associate that with weight loss. In the Celiac Diet, your goal is not weight loss, but rather to keep on the weight you have by eating only foods which do not contain wheat in them, since it is the wheaten foods that cause one’s weight loss. Presently there is no medication to take for this disease. Grainless foods in every sense is a type of medicine, in not harming the physical body of any individual who has Celiac Disease.

With the diagnosis of Celiac Disease, comes the total loss of the normalcy of your everyday eating. These former foods surround you, 24/7, you see your former favorite doughnut, or smell that wonderful aroma of fresh-baked bread, yet, now can no longer partake of either. As you are transitioning away from these ever-present urges, you are hearing your diet being called a fad diet. The obvious disconnect in any individual, living with this disease is glaringly present. My twin sister, Pat, died of Brain Cancer, she never got that second chance at life, which I have now. I know, if I want to retain this precious gift of life again, the Celiac diet, will do that for me.
